I think that the way our eldrely are allowed to be treated is definately criminal. I think that it is sad that we are so worried about fighting wars and protecting the rights of others in foreign lands, when we have such horrible genocide that is being allowed, that's right, being allowed by our government officials. See, they know that what is going on is wrong, but because they need money, they choose to ignore the issue of the welfare of those in nursing homes.

You keep fighting, because you are making a difference. All I can say is that I hope some day you actually get to work in Washington, because if all I read about you is true, those politicians need someone like you that will get in their face and fight for what's right. Keep fighting the good fight and know that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.

I am so sorry for you lose.
I have been caring for my mom 24/7 almost 3 yrs. now .At first because we could not get medicad for her and could not private pay for a home. But last winter our heat was out for 4 days and I had to put her in a home before she froze. It was 34degrees in here one morning. Anyway when I got her back she was half dead . Dehydrated and did pee for 3 days. I finally got her back to normal with lots of fluids and a trip to the doc. Now I am not in any hurry to put her in a home . Even when I can.

First and foremost I am sorry about the loss of your Mother. My Mom passed away in March of this year so I do know how hard it is.

My Mom was diagnosed with lung cancer in late 2006. I immediately became her primary caregiver. During the last 6 months of her life I was with her 24/7. I tell you that to preface this: coming out of the large corporate world to care for my Mother caused me to wonder if I would ever want to return to the corporate world. It turns out I have found my passion outside of the corporate world as a full time caregiver.

I currently am on a private sitting assignment for a nursing home resident. Martha! The things I see daily are horrific! I find myself also making notes of all of the abuse that I see far too many times. EVERY nursing home resident needs someone to be an advocate for them! The nursing home that I am sitting at has a sign on the wall announcing who the state advocate is...that is fine and dandy, but so many of these patients are dropped off into these places without even a regular visit. Who speaks on their behalf?!?!!?

Thanks for what you are doing!

Thank you for sharing your information with others. I worked for Beverly Enterprises as a group sales manager and was appalled at the conditions that they subjected their residents too.

Your story is not a surprise. This, like so many other large nursing home chains, did not put the money back into their buildings or providing improvements in the quality of care or services that they provided.
Instead, they spent money on unnecessary levels of management, corporate parties and corporate jets that were are the beacon call of the upper management of the company.

I witnessed three administrators vying for old dilapidated furniture from one of the buildings, because their furniture was not as nice. Trust me, this furniture was AWFUL.

I have been in mulitiple Beverly homes that when it rained buckets were left to catch the water all over the building. And residents would have to move their clothes out of the closets to keep them dry.

This from an organization that spent over 3 million dollars to change the corporate culture by having Steve Covey provide training to administration.

There is a crisis on Americas nursing homes and it does not stop with the Beverly chains of the world. This is prevalent in many of the large corporate chains.
